Had to confirm that this one was actually true, because, well, jeeze.  Yep.  Totally true.
I’m just kind of surprised that the politicians in Mississippi would take such a controversial move at this time.  Surely this will anger a lot of their voters.
To my followers from Mississippi, you have my deepest sympathies.  :-\

Mississippi goddamn.

I had my father get sick when I was 22. And I was poor, alright. And my father had an ulcer, and it exploded and you know all these toxins get in your blood. And basically, my father died, whatever, 50 days after his ulcer. So I had a father get sick while I was poor.

My mother got sick when I was rich. And my mother, you know… I don’t really want to get into it, but my mother was sicker than my father. And my mother’s alive. My mother’s fine, OK? I remember going to the hospital to see my mother and wondering, ‘Was I in the right place?’ Like, this was a hotel. Like it had a concierge, man.

People don’t… if the average person really knew the discrepancy in the health care system, there’d be riots in the streets, OK? They would burn this motherfucker down!”

Bringing this back, because some people don’t seem to understand that there is a discrepancy in the quality of care among poor, middle-class, and wealthy people, NO MATTER HOW DEBILITATING THEIR RESPECTIVE DISEASES MAY BE.

ABC News: Preschoolers to get mental health checks

I’m sorry, what the fuck is this shit.

I get looking for autism spectrum disorders because it’s better to pick it up now than when they’re in high school and failing miserably,

but jesus fucking christ,

this is going way too far.

I get that as a country we have a lot of trouble with mental health but JEEZ YOU’RE NOT HELPING VERY MUCH. This sort of crap is NOT going to encourage people to get help, it’s only going to make them feel worse, and it sends completely the wrong message to these kids.

New study finds 45,000 deaths annually linked to lack of health coverage | Harvard Gazette

Nearly 45,000 annual deaths are associated with lack of health insurance, according to a new study published online today by theAmerican Journal of Public Health. That figure is about two and a half times higher than an estimate from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 2002.

The study, conducted at Harvard Medical School and Cambridge Health Alliance, found that uninsured, working-age Americans have a 40 percent higher risk of death than their privately insured counterparts, up from a 25 percent excess death rate found in 1993.

“The uninsured have a higher risk of death when compared to the privately insured, even after taking into account socioeconomics, health behaviors, and baseline health,” said lead author Andrew Wilper, M.D., who currently teaches at the University of Washington School of Medicine. “We doctors have many new ways to prevent deaths from hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease — but only if patients can get into our offices and afford their medications.”

The House AGRICULTURE Committee in Illinois has now decided transvaginal probe ultrasounds ought to be required in at least some cases when women seek abortions.

As my friend Mike Gizzi says: the AGRICULTURE Committee. Because women are apparently cows.

And let’s be clear: ALL THIS TO GET A PROCEDURE THAT IS LEGAL!

It’s time to stop abusing women in the law.

When PoliticalProf uses an exclamation point, you know it’s serious.

The Agriculture Committee?

The whole situation is still incredibly fucked-up and wrong and now it’s spreading someone send help.
